MedHQ Appoints Wes Battiste as Executive Vice President of Ambulatory Services
The appointment comes at a pivotal time for Avanza + MedHQ as the company expands its non-equity management services alongside an integrated service delivery platform encompassing the critical operating functions required to manage ambulatory networks at scale.
“We have been intentional in building an enterprise-wide solution that enables our partners to grow, operate more effectively, and achieve better outcomes,” said Erik Miller, CEO of Avanza + MedHQ. “Bringing the best talent in the industry into our organization — leaders who can directly impact operations and performance — is central to our strategy. As care continues to migrate to the outpatient setting, we believe our combination of management expertise and scalable operating capabilities positions us to help our partners capitalize on one of the most significant shifts in healthcare over the next decade.”
Battiste brings 40 years of healthcare experience, including more than three decades focused on the development, operations, strategy, and growth of ASCs and anesthesia services. He has led multiple ASC projects from inception through operation, overseeing land acquisition, financing, physician syndication, project management, capital equipment procurement, licensure, accreditation, and long-term management. In addition, Battiste has played key roles in mergers, acquisitions, and joint ventures involving ASCs, anesthesia services, and real estate, working with independent organizations, hospital systems, and national healthcare companies.
“Wes has been instrumental in shaping the strategy and direction of our ASC client engagements since joining the organization in 2024,” said Steve Mason, President and Chief Operating Officer of Avanza + MedHQ. “Over the past 15 months, he has helped establish partnerships with many of the country’s largest health systems, demonstrating both his ability to build trusted relationships and his understanding of what our clients need to succeed.
“As the healthcare landscape continues to evolve, Wes will play an increasingly important role in how we grow and support our ASC, health system, and physician partners. Having him in this position strengthens our ability to anticipate their needs, bring the right expertise and resources to each engagement, and consistently deliver the operational excellence and service our clients expect.”
As Executive Vice President of Ambulatory Services, Battiste will provide executive leadership across Avanza + MedHQ’s growing portfolio, helping clients navigate the development, management, and growth of outpatient care. He will work alongside hospitals and health systems, ASCs, physician groups, and academic medical center leaders on initiatives spanning strategic planning and feasibility, ASC development and partnership structuring, non-equity ASC management, operational performance, and long-term growth.
“Having spent much of my career working alongside physicians, health systems, and ASC leaders, I’ve seen firsthand what separates successful outpatient partnerships from those that struggle,” said Battiste. “The strongest organizations combine sound strategy with disciplined execution and true alignment among partners. I look forward to leveraging my experience in this new role and collaborating with the impressive Avanza + MedHQ team to help clients pursue sustainable growth and deliver exceptional patient care.”
Battiste earned both his bachelor’s degree with highest honors and his master’s degree in medical science in anesthesia from Emory University.
