NASHVILLE, Tenn., Sept. 10, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Every person deserves access to support before a moment of crisis becomes a tragedy. That shared conviction is at the heart of Newport Healthcare‘s continued partnership with To Write Love on Her Arms (TWLOHA), now entering its 10th year. During Suicide Prevention Awareness Month this September, the organizations are again joining forces to spread messages of hope, connect people with help, and support access to lifesaving mental health treatment.
The partnership reaches two significant milestones in 2026: a decade of collaboration between Newport Healthcare and TWLOHA, and 20 years since the story that inspired TWLOHA first appeared online. This year’s TWLOHA campaign theme, This Is Not the End of Your Story, reinforces a message central to both organizations: that pain does not define a person, support is available, and healing is possible.
The need for connection and accessible care remains urgent. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that 48,824 people in the United States died by suicide in one recent year. Suicide is the second-leading cause of death among people ages 10-34. In the CDC’s nationally representative survey of U.S. high school students, 20% reported seriously considering suicide and 10% reported a suicide attempt during the previous year. Among young adults ages 18-25, 13% had serious thoughts of suicide and 2% attempted suicide, the highest prevalence of any adult age group. Globally, the World Health Organization estimates that 727,000 people die by suicide each year, equivalent to about one life every 43 seconds.
“For 10 years, our partnership with TWLOHA has been grounded in a shared belief that no one should have to struggle alone and that every person deserves access to treatment,” said Newport Healthcare’s Chief Executive Officer Brian Setzer. “Awareness and hope matter, and when they are paired with practical resources, authentic connection, and accessible, evidence-based care, they can save lives. We are proud to partner with TWLOHA again this September and to help more young people and families see that their story is still being written.”
Throughout September, Newport Healthcare and TWLOHA will collaborate on cross-marketing and awareness efforts that encourage people to talk openly about mental health, recognize the power of reaching out, and share pathways to support. Newport also sponsored a matching gift campaign to help fund TWLOHA’s mental health resources and efforts to connect individuals with treatment and recovery support.
“TWLOHA began 20 years ago with one person choosing to show up, tell the truth, and help a friend find treatment,” said TWLOHA’s Executive Director Lindsay Kolsch. “Newport Healthcare has stood with us for half of that journey, helping us remind people that they are not a burden and that asking for help is an act of courage. This partnership allows us to reach more people with both hope and accessible help. Together, we want people to hear us when we say: Please stay. This is not the end of your story.”
On Wednesday, September 16 at 12 p.m. ET, Newport Healthcare will host a special virtual event with Jamie Tworkowski, founder of TWLOHA, and a panel of experts. Attendees will view a new documentary exploring TWLOHA’s beginnings and 20-year impact, followed by a conversation about the power of working together to build awareness and make a difference. The discussion will be moderated by Newport Healthcare’s Manager of Experience and Alumni Relations Sophia Iovenitti, PsyD, and will also include TWLOHA’s Executive Director Lindsay Kolsch and Newport’s Clinical Services Instructor Jennifer Dragonette, PsyD. Mental health and healthcare professionals, parents, and young adults are encouraged to attend to learn and be inspired. Registration is free and open now.
